Hello, and welcome!

I’m Katrina Muller-Townsend, a passionate academic designer, researcher, and consultant focused on supporting learners in navigating their unique educational journeys. In addition to my academic work, I offer consulting services in parenting and developmental psychology, helping families navigate the complexities of raising children in today's fast-paced world.

My career began in an entirely different field—as a professional dancer. The demands of elite performance sparked my interest in how people learn, particularly how complex skills are acquired and retained. This curiosity led me to pursue psychology, with a specific focus on cognitive development and educational practices.

I completed my Honours and PhD research in cognitive psychology, where I examined the role of automatic learning in skill transfer, revealing that learning is highly personal and often deviates from traditional theoretical models. Sometimes we can learn a lot more about human behaviour by examining the outliers rather than average results! This experience has shaped my approach to education: there’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to how people learn.

With this philosophy in mind, I design educational programs and curricula that cater to diverse learning styles, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. I currently serve as a university academic where I coordinate and lecture in psychology units. In addition, I work as a curriculum consultant, advising universities on how to create engaging, impactful learning experiences.

In addition to my work in higher education, I have extensive experience in parenting and developmental consulting. As a mother of six, I understand first-hand the challenges and rewards of raising children through different developmental stages. I help families implement evidence-based strategies for managing everyday parenting challenges, from behavioural concerns to creating structured routines. My approach integrates psychological principles with practical, personalised solutions that adapt to each family’s unique needs and cultural contexts.

Throughout my career, I have published research on topics including cognitive ageing, academic motivation, and skill learning. I’ve also contributed to interdisciplinary studies on sensitive cognitive changes in Alzheimer’s disease.

I’m passionate about lifelong learning, and my work reflects this commitment. Whether it’s through teaching, curriculum design, or consulting, my goal is to create meaningful, accessible learning experiences that empower students, professionals, and families to thrive.

I invite you to explore my website, where you can find more about my services and offerings. I welcome your feedback and look forward to supporting your learning journey.
